Osimertinib Mesylate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Atractylodes interacts with.

Theoretically, atractylodes might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In animals, atractylodes administered at high doses has been shown to inhibit CYP3A1 activity, which is a homolog to the human CYP3A4 enzyme. This effect has not been shown in humans.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear Tagrisso (osimertinib) out of your system. In animal studies, high doses of atractylodes seemed to slow down a similar enzyme. If that same slowdown happened in people, osimertinib could build up a bit, which in theory might mean more of its usual side effects, like diarrhea, mouth sores, dry or itchy skin, nail changes, or fatigue.

The honest part: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab and animal work, and it has never been shown in humans. The effect, if any, is rated minor. Still, because this is a serious cancer medicine, don't add atractylodes without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

Atractylodes is a root used for centuries in traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Thai medicine, mostly for digestive complaints and fatigue, often as part of multi-herb formulas. Modern research is still early and mostly from lab and animal studies, so its true benefits in people are not well proven. About Osimertinib

What Is Osimertinib Used For?

Brand name: Tagrisso

Tagrisso is used to treat adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors have specific EGFR mutations — either an exon 19 deletion or an exon 21 L858R mutation — confirmed by an FDA-approved test. It is used in several settings: after surgery to reduce the risk of cancer returning (adjuvant therapy), for locally advanced stage III NSCLC that has not progressed after chemoradiation, and as a first-line treatment for locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC (including in combination with pemetrexed and platinum-based chemotherapy).

Tagrisso is also approved for adults with metastatic NSCLC that carries a specific resistance mutation called T790M, when the cancer has stopped responding to another EGFR-targeted therapy.
