CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES

Buproprion, Dextromethorphan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA strongly inhibits CYP2D6.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Auvelity is a combination of bupropion and dextromethorphan, and that pairing is actually built on a CYP2D6 trick: the bupropion is there to block CYP2D6 so your body doesn't break down the dextromethorphan too fast. BMPEA also strongly blocks CYP2D6, at least in lab (test tube) studies. Stacking another blocker on top could let dextromethorphan levels climb even higher than intended.
If that happens, you might notice more dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, sweating, or a faster heartbeat. Keep in mind BMPEA is itself a stimulant similar to amphetamine, so it can raise heart rate and blood pressure on its own. This concern is theoretical for now, but BMPEA is best avoided anyway. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES

In vitro research shows that BMPEA inhibits CYP3A4 by up to 37%.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Auvelity combines bupropion and dextromethorphan, and the bupropion piece actually helps boost dextromethorphan levels on purpose. Here's the wrinkle with BMPEA: lab studies hint it may block the CYP3A4 enzyme by about a third. Since that enzyme helps clear part of this combo, slowing it down could let drug levels creep up a bit. In real life that might mean more dizziness, nausea, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or a faster heartbeat.
I'll be honest, this is a theoretical concern from test-tube data, not proven in people. But the bigger issue is BMPEA itself. It's an amphetamine-like stimulant, and bupropion can already raise heart rate, blood pressure, and seizure risk. Stacking two stimulants worries me more than the enzyme math. Please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.
