Here's the basic idea. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down darunavir (Prezista). Lab studies suggest that BMPEA may slow this same enzyme down by a little over a third. If that slowdown happens in real life, your body could clear darunavir more slowly, letting levels creep up. That might mean more of darunavir's usual side effects, like nausea, diarrhea, headache, or rash.

I want to be honest with you though: this is only theoretical, based on test-tube data, not on people taking both together. So we can't say how big a deal it really is. My bigger concern is BMPEA itself, an amphetamine-like stimulant that isn't well studied and may stress your heart. I'd skip it and chat with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Darunavir

What Is Darunavir Used For?

Brand name: Prezista

Darunavir treats HIV-1 infection in adults and in children who are at least 3 years old and weigh at least 10 kg (about 22 lbs). It is not a cure for HIV, but it is used as part of a combination antiretroviral regimen to control the virus.

Darunavir must always be taken together with ritonavir — that pairing is required for darunavir to work properly. Both Prezista (brand name) and generic darunavir tablets are approved for this use. Prezista is also available as an oral suspension, which is particularly useful for younger or smaller patients.
