Deflazacort falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.

Theoretically, BMPEA might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA inhibits CYP3A4 by up to 37%.

Here's the situation with these two. Your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down deflazacort and clear it out. Lab studies suggest BMPEA may slow that enzyme down by about a third. If that happened in real life, deflazacort could build up a bit higher than expected, which might mean more of the usual steroid side effects, things like fluid retention, higher blood sugar, mood changes, trouble sleeping, or stomach upset.

I want to be honest though: this concern is theoretical, based only on test-tube data, not on people. On top of that, BMPEA is a synthetic stimulant that isn't an approved supplement and has real heart-related safety worries of its own. I'd steer clear of it and check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything new with deflazacort.

Brand name: Emflaza

Deflazacort treats Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a rare genetic muscle disease that causes progressive muscle weakness. It is available under several brand names, each with slightly different age approvals.

Emflaza and Jaythari (both tablets and oral suspension) are approved for patients 2 years of age and older. Deflazacort tablets, Deflazacort oral suspension, Kymbee (tablet and oral suspension), and Pyquvi (oral suspension) are approved for patients 5 years of age and older.
