Dextromethorphan HBr falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.

In vitro research shows that BMPEA strongly inhibits CYP2D6.

Here's the gist for this combo. Your body clears dextromethorphan, the cough suppressant in Vicks Formula 44, mostly through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Lab studies suggest BMPEA can block that same enzyme. If it does, dextromethorphan could pile up in your system and hit harder than usual, leading to things like dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, or in higher amounts the dissociated, spacey feeling people sometimes get from too much cough syrup.

I'll be honest though, this is a theoretical concern based on test-tube data, not real patient cases, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, BMPEA is a stimulant with its own heart risks and isn't something I'd recommend taking. If you use either one, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Here's the gist for your cough medicine. Dextromethorphan, the active ingredient in Vicks Formula 44, gets cleared in part by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab (test tube) studies, BMPEA blocked that enzyme by a little over a third. In theory, slowing down that pathway could let more dextromethorphan linger in your system, which may nudge up side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, or feeling foggy.

That said, this is a theoretical concern based on lab data, not real-world cases, so I don't want to alarm you. My bigger worry is BMPEA itself, which is an amphetamine-like stimulant that can raise heart rate and blood pressure. I'd skip it and run your full list by your pharmacist or doctor first.
