CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES

Dextromethorphan, Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA strongly inhibits CYP2D6.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about Actifed DM: one of its ingredients, dextromethorphan (the cough suppressant), is cleared from your body by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Lab studies suggest BMPEA can strongly block that enzyme. If it does, dextromethorphan could build up and hit you harder, leading to more drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, or in higher amounts, a jittery, agitated feeling.
On top of that, BMPEA is an amphetamine-like stimulant, and so is the pseudoephedrine in this product. Stacking two stimulants can push your heart rate and blood pressure up. Honestly, BMPEA is best avoided altogether since it's unapproved and poorly studied. This particular interaction is theoretical, but please run it past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

In vitro research shows that BMPEA inhibits CYP3A4 by up to 37%.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind with Actifed DM (which combines dextromethorphan, pseudoephedrine, and triprolidine). In lab studies, BMPEA appears to mildly block an enzyme called CYP3A4, which helps your body clear part of this combo, especially the dextromethorphan. If that enzyme slows down, those medicine levels could creep up, possibly leading to more drowsiness, dizziness, or jitteriness.
The bigger concern, though, is that BMPEA is an amphetamine-like stimulant, and pseudoephedrine is also a stimulant. Stacking them could push your heart rate and blood pressure higher. Honestly, BMPEA is best avoided altogether. The enzyme part is only theoretical, but please run this by your pharmacist before combining them.

Here's the thing to watch with Actifed DM: one of its ingredients, pseudoephedrine, is itself a stimulant decongestant. It can already nudge your heart rate up and raise your blood pressure on its own. BMPEA is chemically a cousin of amphetamine and is also thought to act as a stimulant, so stacking the two could pile those effects on top of each other.
In real terms, that might mean a racing or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or a spike in blood pressure. This concern is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave rather than solid human studies, so I'm not trying to alarm you. Still, BMPEA isn't a well-vetted ingredient, and I'd rather you check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Beta-methylphenethylamine (BMPEA) is a synthetic stimulant chemically similar to amphetamine that has been found in some weight-loss and sports supplements, often without being clearly listed on the label.
