Elbasvir, Grazoprevir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.

Theoretically, BMPEA might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA inhibits CYP3A4 by up to 37%.

Here's the gist with Zepatier (elbasvir and grazoprevir). Your body partly clears this hepatitis C medicine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest BMPEA may slow that enzyme down a bit (around a third in a test tube). If that happens in real life, levels of grazoprevir in particular could climb higher than expected, which may raise the chance of side effects like nausea, headache, tiredness, or stress on your liver (shown by bumps in liver blood tests).

I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based only on lab data, so we don't truly know how much it matters in people. The bigger concern is that BMPEA is an unapproved amphetamine-like stimulant with real heart and blood pressure risks, so I'd steer clear of it and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Elbasvir and Grazoprevir Used For?

Brand name: Zepatier

Zepatier is used to treat chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 or genotype 4 infection in adults and children 12 years of age and older (or weighing at least 30 kg). It works against both the most common strain of HCV (genotype 1) and genotype 4.

Depending on the specific genotype, prior treatment history, and certain viral characteristics, Zepatier may be prescribed alone or combined with another antiviral medicine called ribavirin. Your prescriber will determine the right regimen and duration for your situation.
