Fenfluramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.

Theoretically, BMPEA might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA strongly inhibits CYP2D6.

Here's the gist for fenfluramine (Pondimin). Your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP2D6 to clear this medicine out. In lab studies, BMPEA appears to block that same enzyme. If that holds true in people, fenfluramine could pile up to higher levels than expected, which may mean stronger effects and more side effects like a faster or pounding heartbeat, raised blood pressure, dizziness, or appetite loss. BMPEA is itself a stimulant, so it could add to those heart-related strains.

I'll be honest: this is theoretical, based on lab work rather than real patient data. Still, BMPEA is an unapproved, unpredictable ingredient, and fenfluramine affects the heart and serotonin. Please don't change anything on your own. Run it past your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Fenfluramine Used For?

Brand name: Pondimin

Fintepla (fenfluramine oral solution) is approved to treat seizures associated with Dravet syndrome (DS) and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) in patients 2 years of age and older. It is used alongside other antiseizure medications.

Both conditions are severe, often hard-to-control forms of epilepsy that typically begin in childhood. Fintepla is available only through a restricted program called the Fintepla REMS because of serious heart-related risks.
