Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) + Methadone
Methadone brand name: Dolophine.
Methadone falls into 2 drug categories that Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, BMPEA might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with whole categories of medication. Methadone falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Methadone
Methadone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA strongly inhibits CYP2D6.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for methadone: lab studies suggest BMPEA can block an enzyme called CYP2D6, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear methadone. If that pathway slows down, methadone could build up a bit more than expected. Since methadone is already an opioid with a tricky safety margin, that matters. More drug hanging around can mean stronger effects like deep drowsiness, slowed or shallow breathing, confusion, or a dangerous heart rhythm change.
That said, this is a theoretical concern based on test-tube data, not real human cases, so I don't want to scare you. BMPEA is also a hidden stimulant best avoided on its own. Please don't change anything without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Methadone also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA inhibits CYP3A4 by up to 37%.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for methadone. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break methadone down. In lab dish studies, BMPEA appears to slow that enzyme by about a third. If that happened in your body, methadone could clear out more slowly and build up to higher levels than usual.
With an opioid like methadone, more drug in your system can mean stronger effects: heavy drowsiness, slowed or shallow breathing, low blood pressure, or a dangerous heart rhythm change (methadone can affect the heart's QT interval). BMPEA is also a stimulant that stresses the heart, so the combo worries me. To be clear, this interaction is only theoretical and based on lab data, not real people. Still, BMPEA is an unapproved, risky ingredient I'd steer clear of. Please run this by your doctor or pharmacist first.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Methadone page
“If you take methadone, choose your supplements with genuine care. Of the 223 ingredients on this page, most either add to methadone's sedating effect or change how fast your body clears it, which can push its blood level up or down.”

About Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea)
What is Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea)?
- Weight loss
- Pre-workout energy
- Athletic performance
- Appetite suppression
- Mental focus
Beta-methylphenethylamine (BMPEA) is a synthetic stimulant chemically similar to amphetamine that has been found in some weight-loss and sports supplements, often without being clearly listed on the label. It is not an approved or well-studied dietary ingredient, and regulators have warned that it may carry real cardiovascular risks. Because of safety concerns and the lack of human research, it is best avoided.
About Methadone
What Is Methadone Used For?
Brand name: Dolophine
Methadone treats two main problems. Some products are used for severe, persistent pain that needs daily, around-the-clock opioid treatment when other options are not adequate. Some products are used for opioid addiction (heroin or other morphine-like drugs), as detoxification or as maintenance treatment along with social and medical services.
Not every product is approved for every use. Methadone tablets, oral solution and oral concentrate (Intensol) list both pain and opioid addiction. Diskets, Methadose Dispersible tablets and the Methadose and Methadone Hydrocloride oral concentrates are labeled only for opioid addiction. Methadone injection is for severe pain, and for short-term treatment of opioid dependence in people who cannot take medicine by mouth, such as hospitalized patients. It is not approved for outpatient opioid dependence treatment. Methadone is not meant to be used as an as-needed pain reliever.
