Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) + Valbenazine Tosylate
Valbenazine Tosylate brand name: Ingrezza.
Valbenazine Tosylate falls into 2 drug categories that Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, BMPEA might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with whole categories of medication. Valbenazine Tosylate falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Valbenazine Tosylate
Valbenazine Tosylate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA strongly inhibits CYP2D6.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Ingrezza (valbenazine). Your body partly relies on an enzyme called CYP2D6 to break this medicine down. In lab studies, BMPEA appears to block that enzyme strongly. If that happens in real life, valbenazine could build up in your system more than expected, which may mean stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, a faster or irregular heartbeat, or balance problems.
I want to be honest though: this concern is theoretical, based on test-tube data, not on people. On top of that, BMPEA itself is a risky, poorly studied stimulant that can raise heart rate and blood pressure, so it's one I'd steer clear of. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing anything new with Ingrezza.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Valbenazine Tosylate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA inhibits CYP3A4 by up to 37%.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Ingrezza (valbenazine). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this medicine out of your body. Lab studies suggest BMPEA may partly block that enzyme (by about a third in a test tube). If that happens in people, valbenazine could build up a bit more than expected, which may bump up side effects like sleepiness, dizziness, or a faster or irregular heartbeat. That last one is worth noting since BMPEA is an amphetamine-like stimulant that can already raise heart rate and blood pressure.
I'll be honest, this interaction is theoretical and based only on lab data, so we don't really know how big a deal it is in real life. Still, BMPEA is an unapproved, risky ingredient I'd steer clear of. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

“The list for valbenazine (Ingrezza), the medicine for tardive dyskinesia, warrants genuine care, since 14 of its 216 supplement and herbal interactions are rated major. Most of those majors either pile extra sedation onto a drug that can already make people drowsy, alcohol being the everyday example, or shift how much valbenazine reach…”

About Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea)
What is Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea)?
- Weight loss
- Pre-workout energy
- Athletic performance
- Appetite suppression
- Mental focus
Beta-methylphenethylamine (BMPEA) is a synthetic stimulant chemically similar to amphetamine that has been found in some weight-loss and sports supplements, often without being clearly listed on the label. It is not an approved or well-studied dietary ingredient, and regulators have warned that it may carry real cardiovascular risks. Because of safety concerns and the lack of human research, it is best avoided.
