Biofeedback + Hydrocodone Bitartrate
Hydrocodone Bitartrate brand names: Hysingla, Vantrela ER.
Biofeedback has a moderate interaction with Hydrocodone Bitartrate. There is some concern that electroencephalogram (EEG) biofeedback might lower the seizure threshold in some patients.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS
Why this applies to Hydrocodone Bitartrate
Hydrocodone Bitartrate falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Biofeedback interacts with.
Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture: this is a very mild, mostly theoretical concern. The idea is that EEG (brainwave) biofeedback might slightly lower the seizure threshold in some people, and strong opioids like hydrocodone can do the same thing, especially at higher doses. Put together, there's a possible small bump in seizure risk. But the evidence here is thin, and most people using biofeedback alongside hydrocodone never run into trouble.
For the vast majority of folks, gentle relaxation-style biofeedback (heart rate, muscle tension) doesn't meaningfully interact with hydrocodone at all. If you have a history of seizures, are on a high opioid dose, or are specifically doing EEG neurofeedback, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before starting. Don't change your hydrocodone on your own.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.
- DAnecdotal evidence.

About Biofeedback
What is Biofeedback?
- Chronic pain
- Headaches and migraines
- Anxiety and stress
- High blood pressure
- Urinary incontinence
- Tension and muscle relaxation
Biofeedback is a mind-body technique, not an herb or supplement. It uses sensors to show you real-time information about body functions like heart rate, muscle tension, or skin temperature so you can learn to control them. It is generally very safe and has reasonable evidence for headaches, certain pain conditions, and pelvic floor problems, but it works best alongside standard medical care.
About Hydrocodone
What Is Hydrocodone Used For?
Brand names: Hysingla, Vantrela ER
Hydrocodone extended-release products treat severe and persistent pain that needs a daily opioid pain reliever. They are for people whose pain can't be managed well with other treatments, including immediate-release opioids.
They are not meant to be used as an as-needed pain reliever. Hydrocodone bitartrate extended-release capsules are described for pain needing an extended treatment period. Hydrocodone bitartrate extended-release tablets and Hysingla ER are described for pain that can't be adequately treated with other options.
