Blond Psyllium and Norelgestromin, Ethinyl Estradiol

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Minor

ETHINYL ESTRADIOL

Why this applies to Norelgestromin, Ethinyl Estradiol

Norelgestromin, Ethinyl Estradiol falls under ETHINYL ESTRADIOL — the group Blond Psyllium interacts with.

Theoretically, taking blond psyllium at the same time as ethinyl estradiol might alter levels of estradiol.
Concurrent use of blond psyllium with ethinyl estradiol results in a slight increase in the extent of ethinyl estradiol absorption and a slower rate of absorption. However, this is unlikely to be clinically significant.

Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Good news here: this is a very minor concern. The Ortho Evra patch delivers norelgestromin and ethinyl estradiol through your skin, so the hormones go straight into your bloodstream and skip the gut entirely. Since blond psyllium does its work in your intestines, it really has little chance to affect a patch you wear on your skin.

The note on file is about ethinyl estradiol taken by mouth, and even there the data is only theoretical (from lab work, not people). At most, psyllium slightly changed how the oral form was absorbed, and experts call this unlikely to matter. With the patch, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. If you ever switch to a pill version, just take your fiber and your medicine a couple hours apart, and ask your pharmacist if you have questions.
