Riluzole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Boswellia Serrata interacts with.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase the levels of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes.

Here's the gist for Riluzole: your liver relies on an enzyme called CYP1A2 to clear it from your body. In lab studies (test tube, not people), boswellic acids from Boswellia appear to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, Riluzole could build up a bit higher than expected, which might mean more of its usual side effects like dizziness, tiredness, nausea, or upset stomach.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's theoretical, based only on early lab work, so we don't have human evidence that it's a real problem. Riluzole isn't a prodrug, so the direction would point toward more effect, not less. Don't change anything on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before starting Boswellia so they can keep an eye on you.

What Is Riluzole Used For?

Riluzole is approved to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) — the progressive neurological disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This indication is shared across all available riluzole products, including tablets (Rilutek, riluzole), the dissolving oral film (Exservan), and the oral suspension (Tiglutik).

Tiglutik oral suspension is notable in that it can also be given through a PEG-tube (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube) for patients who have difficulty swallowing.
