Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to help break down sildenafil. In lab dish studies, boswellic acids (the active part of Boswellia) seem to slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in real life, sildenafil could hang around longer and its effects could feel stronger. For sildenafil that might mean more of the usual side effects, like headache, facial flushing, a stuffy nose, dizziness, or a drop in blood pressure.

The important caveat: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube data, not on people taking the two together. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since sildenafil already affects blood pressure, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before you pair them, especially if you take it for lung pressure (PAH).

Sildenafil also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase or decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear sildenafil out of your system. In test-tube studies, boswellia tends to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, sildenafil could hang around longer and feel stronger, which might mean more of its usual side effects: headache, facial flushing, a stuffy nose, indigestion, or dizziness from a bigger drop in blood pressure.

I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical, based only on lab data, not on real people taking both together. For most folks the effect is probably small. Still, since sildenafil already affects blood pressure, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you get lightheaded easily.

What Is Sildenafil Used For?

Brand name: Revatio

Sildenafil treats two distinct conditions depending on the product. Viagra (tablet) and Vybrique (dissolving oral film) are approved for erectile dysfunction (ED) — difficulty getting or keeping an erection. Generic sildenafil tablets and oral film are also approved for ED.

Revatio and several generic sildenafil products (tablets, oral suspension, and injection) are used for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs — in adults to improve exercise ability and slow the disease from getting worse. Revatio oral suspension and injection are also approved for PAH in children ages 1 to 17.
