Ethinyl estradiol, Levonogestrel falls under ESTROGENS — the group Bridelia interacts with.

In animals, Bridelia ferruginea extract has estrogenic effects, although the magnitude of these effects is less than that of ethinylestradiol. Theoretically, Bridelia might interfere with hormone therapy.

Lybrel combines two hormones, ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen) and levonorgestrel (a progestin), to prevent pregnancy and keep your hormone levels steady. The concern here is that Bridelia ferruginea appears to have its own mild estrogen-like activity in animal studies. In theory, adding a plant with hormonal effects on top of your birth control could nudge your overall hormone balance in ways that are hard to predict.

Keep this in perspective, though. This is based only on lab and animal research, and the estrogen effect seen was weaker than ethinyl estradiol itself, so we really don't know how it plays out in people. There's no strong sign it weakens your protection, but because so little is known, it's worth checking with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.
