Chlorthalidone falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Bridelia interacts with.

Animal research suggests that Bridelia extracts decrease arterial pressure. Theoretically, concomitant use of Bridelia with antihypertensive drugs might have additive blood pressure lowering effects.
Some antihypertensive drugs include nifedipine (Adalat, Procardia), verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, Verelan), diltiazem (Cardizem), isradipine (DynaCirc), felodipine (Plendil), amlodipine (Norvasc), and others.

Here's the simple version: Chlorthalidone is a water pill that lowers your blood pressure by helping your body shed extra salt and fluid. Bridelia, in animal studies, also seems to nudge blood pressure downward. Put the two together and the worry is that they could stack up, pushing your blood pressure lower than intended.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, especially standing up, or just unusually tired or weak. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on lab and animal work, not strong human studies, so it may not amount to much. Still, since chlorthalidone already affects your fluids and minerals, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Bridelia.

What Is Chlorthalidone Used For?

Brand names: Hygroton, Thalitone

Chlorthalidone is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, especially strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.

Chlorthalidone is also used as an add-on treatment for edema (fluid buildup) caused by heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and kidney conditions including nephrotic syndrome, acute glomerulonephritis, and chronic renal failure. Thalitone is additionally indicated for edema associated with heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and renal disease including nephrotic syndrome.
