Here's the basic idea with these two together. Defibrotide is a powerful clot-fighting medicine given in the hospital to protect the liver's blood vessels after a stem-cell transplant. On its own, it can raise your chances of bleeding. In lab dish studies, Bulbine natalensis leaf appeared to slow down platelets (the cells that help your blood clot). So in theory, stacking them could nudge your bleeding risk a little higher, showing up as easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or blood that takes longer to stop.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on test-tube data, not real patient cases. Also, defibrotide is used in a closely watched hospital setting, so don't add this or any supplement without first clearing it with your transplant team or pharmacist.

What Is Defibrotide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Defitelio

Defitelio (defibrotide injection) is used to treat hepatic veno-occlusive disease (VOD) — also called sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS) — in adult and pediatric patients. This is a serious condition where small blood vessels in the liver become blocked, most often after a hematopoietic stem-cell transplant (HSCT).

Defitelio is specifically indicated when VOD is accompanied by kidney dysfunction or pulmonary (lung) dysfunction, making it a treatment for one of the most severe forms of this complication.
