Flutamide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Bulbine Natalensis interacts with.

Theoretically, Bulbine natalensis stem might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract slightly induces CYP1A2 mRNA expression and enzyme activity. Theoretically, this may increase the metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates; however, this has not been studied in humans.

Here's the situation with Flutamide and Bulbine Natalensis. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to help process flutamide. In lab dish studies, Bulbine appeared to slightly speed up that enzyme. If that happened in the body, it could clear flutamide a bit faster and possibly make it less effective. Since flutamide works alongside your hormone injection to hold back prostate cancer, you don't want anything chipping away at how well it works.

That said, this is only a theory from test-tube research, never confirmed in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The bigger concern is that Bulbine has shown possible liver and kidney harm in animals, and flutamide already stresses the liver. Please run this by your oncologist or pharmacist before adding it.

Here's the concern with pairing Bulbine natalensis and flutamide. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to process flutamide. In lab dish studies, this supplement appeared to rev up that enzyme. If the same thing happened in people, your body could clear flutamide a little faster, which might weaken how well it blocks male hormones and fights your prostate cancer.

I want to be honest about the evidence though. This is only a theoretical worry based on test-tube research, with nothing studied in actual patients. On top of that, Bulbine itself has raised liver and kidney safety questions in animals. Since flutamide is a serious cancer treatment, please don't add this supplement without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

About Flutamide

What Is Flutamide Used For?

Brand names: Eulexin, Euflex

Eulexin (flutamide) capsules are used to treat prostate cancer in men. They are always used together with an LHRH agonist (a hormone-lowering injection), never alone.

Eulexin is indicated for two stages of prostate cancer: locally confined Stage B2-C prostate cancer (used alongside goserelin acetate and radiation therapy, starting eight weeks before radiation begins) and Stage D2 metastatic prostate cancer (cancer that has spread beyond the prostate, taken with an LHRH agonist until the disease progresses).
