Here's the situation with bupleurum and your cisplatin. Cisplatin is a powerful chemotherapy drug that works partly by damping down certain immune and cell-growth processes, and it's often grouped with medicines that quiet the immune system. The concern on file is that bupleurum may do the opposite, nudging the immune system to be more active. In theory, that could work against what your treatment is trying to do.

I want to be honest about how thin the evidence is here. This comes only from lab dishes and animal studies, not from people, so we really don't know if it matters in real life. Still, with something as serious as cancer chemo, I wouldn't gamble. Please run any herbal product, including bupleurum, by your oncologist or pharmacist before using it.

About Cisplatin Injection

What Is Cisplatin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Platinol-AQ

Cisplatin Injection is used to treat three types of cancer. For metastatic testicular tumors and metastatic ovarian tumors, it is used as part of combination chemotherapy — alongside other approved cancer medicines — in patients who have already had surgery and/or radiation therapy. For metastatic ovarian tumors, it can also be used alone as a second-line treatment when standard chemotherapy has stopped working and cisplatin has not been tried before.

For advanced bladder cancer (specifically transitional cell bladder cancer) that can no longer be treated with surgery or radiation, Cisplatin Injection is used as a single agent.
