Let me walk you through this one. Troglitazone (Rezulin) is a diabetes medicine that helps lower your blood sugar. The concern with bupleurum is that one of its compounds, called saikosaponins, may actually nudge blood sugar in the opposite direction, upward. If that happened while you were taking Troglitazone, the herb could work against your medicine and leave your blood sugar higher than you'd like.

I want to be honest about how strong this is though. This is purely theoretical, based on animal studies, not real cases in people. So it isn't something to panic over. Still, if you take a diabetes drug and want to try bupleurum, please check in with your doctor or pharmacist first and keep an eye on your sugar readings.
