Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
STIMULANT LAXATIVES
Why this applies to Casanthranol, Docusate Sodium
Casanthranol, Docusate Sodium falls under STIMULANT LAXATIVES — the group Calotropis interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to understand about this combo. Peri-Colace is a stool softener (docusate) paired with a stimulant laxative (casanthranol). The stimulant part nudges your bowels to move, and like other stimulant laxatives, using it heavily or for a long time can flush out potassium along with the stool. That's the real issue here, not the laxative itself.
Calotropis contains natural cardiac glycosides that act on the heart. When your potassium drops low, the heart becomes more sensitive to those compounds, which can raise the risk of irregular heartbeats. This is a theoretical concern based on how the chemistry works, not proven cases, but since calotropis can already be toxic, I'd skip it and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Calotropis
What is Calotropis?
- Skin conditions and wounds (traditional, topical)
- Joint pain and inflammation
- Digestive complaints
- Coughs and respiratory issues
- Traditional Ayurvedic and folk remedies
Calotropis is a milkweed-family plant long used in traditional medicine, but its milky latex and other parts are potentially toxic and can harm the eyes, skin, and heart. Human evidence for any health benefit is very limited, and the risk of poisoning is real, so it should not be taken internally without expert medical supervision.
