Indapamide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Calotropis interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of calotropis and potassium depleting diuretics can increase the risk of cardiac glycoside toxicity due to potassium depletion. Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

Here's the concern with this pairing. Indapamide is a water pill that makes your kidneys flush out extra salt and water, but along the way it can also lower your potassium level. Calotropis contains natural cardiac glycosides, compounds that act on the heart. When potassium runs low, the heart becomes more sensitive to those glycosides, which raises the risk of toxic heart effects like an irregular or dangerously slow heartbeat.

To be clear, this is a theoretical interaction based on how these substances work, not on hard human studies, so the actual risk is uncertain. Still, calotropis can be genuinely poisonous on its own, so I wouldn't take it internally. Please run any herbal product past your pharmacist or doctor first, and never adjust your indapamide without their guidance.

What Is Indapamide Used For?

Brand names: Lozol, Lozide

Indapamide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), either on their own or together with other blood pressure medications. Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of related complications.

Indapamide tablets are also used to treat salt and fluid retention (edema) associated with congestive heart failure. In certain cases, indapamide may also be appropriate during pregnancy when swelling is caused by a medical condition rather than normal pregnancy changes — but routine use in otherwise healthy pregnant women is not recommended.
