Why this applies to Acitretin

Acitretin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INHIBITORS — the group Cannabinol (cbn) interacts with.

Theoretically, CYP3A4 inhibitors might increase the levels and clinical effects of cannabinol.
In vitro research shows that CYP3A4 enzymes are involved in the 8-hydroxylation of cannabinol. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here the roles are reversed from what you might expect. In this pairing, acitretin is the one acting on the CBN, not the other way around. Acitretin can mildly slow down the CYP3A4 enzyme that helps your body break down cannabinol. So in theory, taking them together could let CBN levels build up a bit, which might leave you feeling more drowsy, foggy, or lightheaded than the CBN alone would.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it comes only from lab (test tube) research and has never been reported in real people, so it's quite theoretical. Your acitretin itself isn't expected to change. Still, since CBN products vary a lot and acitretin is a serious medication, please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Acitretin Used For?

Brand name: Soriatane

Acitretin capsules are approved to treat severe psoriasis in adults. It is typically reserved for patients whose psoriasis has not responded to other treatments, or when other treatments are not appropriate options.

Because of serious risks — including the risk of severe birth defects — acitretin is not a first-line choice. In women who could become pregnant, it should only be used when the benefits clearly outweigh the risks and strict pregnancy-prevention measures are in place.
