Voriconazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INHIBITORS — the group Cannabinol (cbn) interacts with.

Theoretically, CYP3A4 inhibitors might increase the levels and clinical effects of cannabinol.
In vitro research shows that CYP3A4 enzymes are involved in the 8-hydroxylation of cannabinol. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here the spotlight is really on the CBN, not your antifungal. Voriconazole is a strong blocker of a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and lab studies suggest that same enzyme helps break down cannabinol. So if you take both, your body may clear the CBN more slowly, letting it build up. In plain terms, the CBN could hit harder than expected (more drowsiness, grogginess, or dizziness).

I want to keep this in perspective though: this is only seen in test-tube research and has never actually been reported in people. Voriconazole itself isn't a prodrug, so its own job of fighting your infection shouldn't change. Still, since cannabis products vary so much, please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

Here's the gist of this one: voriconazole is a strong blocker of a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, and lab studies suggest that same enzyme helps break down CBN. So in theory, taking voriconazole alongside CBN could let CBN build up a bit more than usual, which might make its effects (like drowsiness or grogginess) feel stronger or last longer.

I want to be straight with you, though: this is based only on test-tube research, and it has not actually been seen in people. So the real-world impact is uncertain. Voriconazole itself can already cause sleepiness, dizziness, and visual changes, so doubling up on something sedating may add to that. Before you mix the two, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can weigh in for your situation.

Here's the idea with these two together. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2C9 to help break down voriconazole. In lab studies, CBN appears to block that same enzyme. If that held true in people, voriconazole could clear out more slowly and build up in your body, which may mean stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like nausea, visual changes (blurry or unusual vision is a known one with this drug), liver strain, or heart rhythm changes.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube research, and it hasn't actually been reported in real patients. Still, because voriconazole levels matter a lot, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing it with CBN rather than guessing.

About Voriconazole

What Is Voriconazole Used For?

Brand name: Vfend

Voriconazole treats several serious fungal infections. Across all available forms — tablets, oral suspension, and intravenous (IV) injection — it is used for invasive aspergillosis (a dangerous mold infection), candidemia (Candida fungus in the bloodstream) in patients who are not neutropenic (not severely low on white blood cells), other deep-tissue Candida infections, and serious infections caused by Scedosporium apiospermum or Fusarium species in patients who cannot tolerate or have not responded to other antifungal treatments.

Esophageal candidiasis (a Candida infection of the esophagus, the swallowing tube) is also an approved use for most formulations. Note on the oral tablet form (generic voriconazole tablets): that specific tablet formulation is approved for patients aged 12 to 14 years weighing at least 50 kg, and all patients 15 years and older — not for younger or smaller children. The oral suspension and the IV injection are approved for patients 2 years and older for most of these conditions.
