Bromocriptine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabis interacts with.

Theoretically, cannabis may increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that cannabis can inhibit the activity of CYP3A4 enzymes, which might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates. In vitro research also shows that cannabis extracts modestly inhibit the CYP3A4 metabolism of testosterone; extracts providing the specific cannabinoids CBD and cannabigerol (CBG) had stronger inhibitory effects than extracts containing THC and CBD.

Here's the basic idea: your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down bromocriptine. Lab studies suggest that some cannabis compounds (especially CBD and CBG) can slow that enzyme down. If that happens in real life, bromocriptine could clear out of your body a little more slowly and build up, which may bump up its usual side effects.

For bromocriptine, that could mean more nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, headache, or drowsiness. I want to be honest though: this is based on test-tube research, not solid human studies, so it's a theoretical concern, not a proven problem. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before combining the two, especially since both can make you feel woozy. Please don't change anything on your own.

About Bromocriptine

What Is Bromocriptine Used For?

Brand name: Parlodel

Bromocriptine mesylate tablets and capsules (sold as Parlodel and generics) treat conditions caused by too much prolactin in the blood — including missed periods, unwanted breast milk production, infertility, and hypogonadism (low sex-hormone function). They are also used for prolactin-secreting pituitary tumors (adenomas), acromegaly (excess growth hormone), and the signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease, often alongside levodopa.

Cycloset — a specific bromocriptine tablet formulation — is separately approved as an add-on to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Cycloset should not be used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
