Capmatinib Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabis interacts with.

Theoretically, cannabis may increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that cannabis can inhibit the activity of CYP3A4 enzymes, which might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates. In vitro research also shows that cannabis extracts modestly inhibit the CYP3A4 metabolism of testosterone; extracts providing the specific cannabinoids CBD and cannabigerol (CBG) had stronger inhibitory effects than extracts containing THC and CBD.

Here's the basic idea with capmatinib (Tabrecta) and cannabis. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break capmatinib down and clear it out. In lab studies, compounds in cannabis (especially CBD and CBG) can slow that enzyme a bit. If that happens in real life, capmatinib could build up slightly higher than expected. Capmatinib is the active drug itself, not a prodrug, so more drug in your system means a stronger chance of its usual side effects, things like nausea, swelling in your legs, tiredness, and changes in liver or lung function.

I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube data, not on people. Still, because this is a serious cancer medicine, please loop in your oncology team or pharmacist before mixing the two.

What Is Capmatinib Used For?

Brand name: Tabrecta

Tabrecta (capmatinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — lung cancer that has spread — whose tumors carry a specific genetic change called a MET exon 14 skipping mutation. A patient must test positive for this mutation using an FDA-approved test before starting treatment.

This is a targeted therapy, meaning it works against tumors with this particular genetic driver rather than all lung cancers.
