Why this applies to Ciclesonide

Ciclesonide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabis interacts with.

Theoretically, cannabis may increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that cannabis can inhibit the activity of CYP3A4 enzymes, which might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates. In vitro research also shows that cannabis extracts modestly inhibit the CYP3A4 metabolism of testosterone; extracts providing the specific cannabinoids CBD and cannabigerol (CBG) had stronger inhibitory effects than extracts containing THC and CBD.

Here's the gist for your inhaler. Ciclesonide is broken down by an enzyme called CYP3A4, and lab studies suggest cannabis (especially CBD) can slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let a little more active steroid hang around in your body.

Now, the reassuring part: ciclesonide is inhaled and is designed to act mostly in your airways, with relatively little reaching the rest of you. This warning is also based only on test-tube research (not real-world cases), so it's quite theoretical and likely minor for most people. If you used very high steroid doses long-term, increased steroid effects like mouth thrush, hoarseness, or in rare cases body-wide effects could matter. It's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, but no need to worry.

What Is Ciclesonide Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand names: Omnaris, Alvesco, Zetonna

Alvesco (ciclesonide) inhaler is approved for the maintenance treatment of asthma as a preventive therapy in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is taken regularly to reduce airway inflammation and help prevent asthma symptoms — not to relieve a sudden attack.

Alvesco is not a rescue inhaler and should not be used to treat sudden wheezing or acute asthma episodes. It is also not approved for children under 12.
