Felbamate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Cannabis interacts with.

Theoretically, cannabis might have additive effects if used with other CNS depressants.
Cannabis can have CNS depressant effects. Combining cannabis with other CNS depressants might result in additive or synergistic effects. A small clinical trial in healthy adults shows that inhaling a high-grade cannabis (Bedrocan International B.V., Veendam, The Netherlands) 100 mg, containing delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol 21.8% and cannabinol 0.1%, modestly increases subjective feelings of sedation when compared with cannabis alone.

Here's the simple version: both cannabis and felbamate can act on your brain and nervous system, and putting them together may pile those effects on top of each other. Cannabis tends to slow things down a bit, and felbamate, like many seizure medicines, can already cause drowsiness, dizziness, trouble concentrating, or feeling unsteady. Using them at the same time could make you more sleepy or foggy than you'd expect.

I want to be honest about the evidence here. This is a theoretical concern based on how the two work, not something proven in big studies, so don't panic. Still, if you notice extra drowsiness or your thinking feels slowed, go easy on driving and check in with your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.

About Felbamate

What Is Felbamate Used For?

Brand name: Felbatol

Felbamate is not a first-line seizure medication. It is used only when a person's epilepsy has not responded well enough to other treatments and the seizures are severe enough that the serious risks of this drug are considered acceptable.

In adults, felbamate can be used alone or alongside other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) to treat partial seizures (seizures that start in one part of the brain), with or without spreading to become a full seizure. In children, felbamate is used as an add-on treatment for both partial and generalized seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of childhood epilepsy. Felbatol is specifically labeled for these uses in both adults and children.
