Hydrochlorothiazide, Lisinopril falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorella interacts with.

Theoretically, chlorella might have additive effects with photosensitizing drugs.
Chlorella has been reported to cause photosensitization. In five case reports, patients who had ingested chlorella exhibited swelling followed by erythematopurpuric lesions on sun-exposed areas of the body. Theoretically, concomitant use with photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate effects.

Here's the thing to know about pairing chlorella with your Zestoretic (lisinopril/hydrochlorothiazide). The hydrochlorothiazide part can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, meaning you may sunburn faster or break out in a rash on sun-exposed areas. Chlorella has been linked, in a handful of case reports, to a similar sun-sensitivity reaction. So in theory, taking both could add up and make your skin react more easily to the sun.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical concern based on how these work, not something proven to happen often. Most folks tolerate it fine. Still, it's smart to use sunscreen and cover up outdoors. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding chlorella, especially since its effect on blood pressure isn't well established.

Lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets — sold as the brand Zestoretic and as the generic combination — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attack.

This is a fixed-dose combination product and is not intended as a first-line (initial) treatment for high blood pressure. It is typically prescribed for patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled on a single medication alone.
