Theoretically, chlorella might have additive effects with photosensitizing drugs.
Chlorella has been reported to cause photosensitization. In five case reports, patients who had ingested chlorella exhibited swelling followed by erythematopurpuric lesions on sun-exposed areas of the body. Theoretically, concomitant use with photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate effects.

Here's the thing about pairing chlorella with losartan (Cozaar): this isn't about how your body processes the drug or your blood pressure control. It's really about your skin. Some medications, including losartan, can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Chlorella has been linked, in a handful of case reports, to the same kind of sun sensitivity, with swelling and reddish-purple rashes showing up on areas that got sun exposure.

So the worry is simply that the two together might add up and make you more prone to a sunburn-like reaction. I'll be honest, this is theoretical and based on just a few reports, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Practical tip: use sunscreen and cover up outdoors. If a rash shows up, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

Chlorella is a nutrient-rich freshwater green algae taken as a supplement for general wellness, immune support, and 'detox.' Some small studies suggest possible benefits for cholesterol, blood pressure, and immune markers, but the overall evidence is limited and not strong. It is generally well tolerated, but quality varies and it should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless a doctor approves.

What Is Losartan Used For?

Brand name: Cozaar

Losartan tablets — available as branded Cozaar and several generic products — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Losartan tablets are also used to reduce the risk of stroke in people with high blood pressure who also have left ventricular hypertrophy (an enlarged left side of the heart). Note: evidence suggests this stroke-risk benefit may not apply to Black patients.

Losartan tablets are additionally approved to protect the kidneys in people with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and signs of kidney damage (diabetic nephropathy). Arbli, the oral suspension form, shares these same approved uses.
