Flurbiprofen falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Cilantro interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that coriandrin, a constituent of cilantro, has photosensitizing effects. Theoretically, concomitant use with photosensitizing drugs might increase photosensitivity. Some drugs that cause photosensitivity include amitriptyline (Elavil), quinolones (Ciprofloxacin, others), sulfa drugs (Septra, Bactrim, others), and tetracycline.

Here's the gist: flurbiprofen is one of those medicines (an NSAID) that can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you may sunburn faster than usual. Cilantro contains a compound called coriandrin that, in lab dishes, also seems to make skin more reactive to light. Put the two together and, in theory, you might get a bit more sun sensitivity.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one. It's theoretical, based only on test-tube research, and eating cilantro as a food (in your salsa or curry) is very unlikely to cause any problem. Concentrated cilantro supplements or essential oil are a different story. Either way, a little extra sunscreen, a hat, and shade is smart while on flurbiprofen. Check with your pharmacist if you're unsure.

Flurbiprofen tablets (sold as Flurbiprofen and Lurbiro) are used to relieve the pain, swelling, and stiffness of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Flurbiprofen Sodium eye drops are a separate product used during eye surgery — specifically to keep the pupil from constricting (getting smaller) while the procedure is underway. This use applies only to the ophthalmic (eye drop) form.
