Aripiprazole Lauroxil falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Cilantro interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that coriandrin, a constituent of cilantro, has photosensitizing effects. Theoretically, concomitant use with photosensitizing drugs might increase photosensitivity. Some drugs that cause photosensitivity include amitriptyline (Elavil), quinolones (Ciprofloxacin, others), sulfa drugs (Septra, Bactrim, others), and tetracycline.

Here's the gist: aripiprazole (the long-acting Aristada shot) can occasionally make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Cilantro contains a compound called coriandrin that, in lab dish studies, also seems to bump up sun sensitivity. So in theory, pairing the two could leave you a little more prone to sunburn, redness, or rash after time outdoors.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes from test-tube research, not real people, and the everyday cilantro you sprinkle on tacos or guacamole is very unlikely to cause any trouble. Concentrated cilantro extracts or essential oil are the bigger question mark. To be safe, wear sunscreen and a hat, and check with your pharmacist before using strong cilantro supplements.

Aripiprazole injection is used to treat schizophrenia and to provide maintenance treatment for bipolar I disorder in adults. Different injectable products carry these approvals.

Abilify Asimtufii is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and as maintenance monotherapy for bipolar I disorder in adults. Aristada is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults, with Aristada Initio used specifically to help start Aristada therapy.
