Why this applies to Vincristine

Vincristine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Clove interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of clove may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that eugenol, the principal constituent of clove, can inhibit CYP3A4 in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for vincristine: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break it down and clear it out. Lab studies (test tube, not people) suggest that eugenol, the main compound in clove, can slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in a real person, vincristine could build up higher than intended.

Why does that matter? Vincristine's worst side effects tend to be nerve-related, things like tingling, numbness, weakness, constipation, and jaw pain. Higher levels could make those harder. That said, this is theoretical and based only on lab data, and a sprinkle of clove in food is very unlikely to be an issue. Concentrated clove oil or supplements are a different story. Since vincristine is serious chemo, please run any clove supplement past your oncology team first.

Vincristine Sulfate Injection is approved to treat acute leukemia. It is also used as part of combination chemotherapy regimens for Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's malignant lymphomas, rhabdomyosarcoma (a soft-tissue cancer), neuroblastoma (a cancer of nerve tissue), and Wilms' tumor (a kidney cancer in children).

Because it works best alongside other cancer medicines, vincristine is almost always given as part of a multi-drug treatment plan rather than on its own.
