ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Aliskiren
Aliskiren falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Coriander interacts with.
Evidence from animal research suggests that coriander fruit can lower blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: Tekturna (aliskiren) already works to bring your blood pressure down. Coriander, going by some early animal studies, may have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own. Stack the two together and there's a chance your numbers could dip a little lower than expected. If that happens, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, tired, or a bit woozy when you stand up quickly.
That said, I want to keep this in persp. This concern is theoretical and comes from lab and animal research, not solid human trials. Sprinkling fresh cilantro on your tacos is very unlikely to cause any trouble. Concentrated coriander extracts or essential oils are where I'd be more cautious. If you plan to use those, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aliskiren page
“Aliskiren (Tekturna) has one job, keeping blood pressure down, and most of this list pulls on that same rope. Of the 227 supplements with an interaction on file, 119 have blood-pressure effects of their own, stacking with the drug until pressure drops too far (fish oil is a common one) or pushing back against it.”

About Coriander
What is Coriander?
- Digestive upset and gas
- Appetite stimulation
- Mild antimicrobial (topical)
- Diarrhea and IBS symptoms
- General flavoring and traditional remedy
Coriander (also called cilantro) is a common cooking herb and spice that has long been used in traditional medicine for digestive complaints. As a food it is generally safe for most people, but high-quality human studies supporting its medicinal benefits are limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated extracts or essential oils.
About Aliskiren
What Is Aliskiren Used For?
Brand name: Tekturna
Aliskiren and Tekturna tablets are both approved to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children who are at least 6 years old and weigh 50 kg (about 110 lbs) or more. Lowering high blood pressure reduces the risk of serious events like strokes and heart attacks.
Managing blood pressure is usually part of a broader plan that may also include diet changes, exercise, cholesterol control, and other medications. Many people need more than one blood pressure drug to reach their goal.
