The combo pill of hydrochlorothiazide and spironolactone is a water pill that lowers blood pressure by helping your body get rid of extra fluid and salt. Coriander, mostly from animal studies, seems to nudge blood pressure down a little too. So in theory, pairing the two could lower your numbers a bit more than expected.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or woozy when standing up. The good news is that this is theoretical and the evidence is weak. The pinch of cilantro you cook with is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated coriander extracts or essential oils are the bigger question mark, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before using those.

Here's the gist for your combo pill of hydrochlorothiazide and spironolactone: the water-pill part (hydrochlorothiazide) can already make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you may sunburn faster than usual. Coriander contains a compound called coriandrin that, at least in lab studies, seems to add to that sun-sensitizing effect. So in theory, pairing the two could raise your chance of a quicker or stronger sunburn.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical and based only on test-tube work, not real patient reports, so I wouldn't lose sleep over the cilantro in your salsa. Concentrated coriander extracts or oils are a different story. Either way, good sun habits (sunscreen, hat, shade) cover you. Questions? Just ask your pharmacist.
