Coriander and Indapamide

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS

Why this applies to Indapamide

Indapamide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Coriander interacts with.

Theoretically, coriander might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Evidence from animal research suggests that coriander fruit can lower blood pressure.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: indapamide is a water pill that already nudges your blood pressure down. Coriander, in concentrated amounts, may have its own mild blood-pressure-lowering effect. So if you stack the two, the worry is that your pressure could dip a little lower than expected. That might leave you feeling dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or wobbly when you stand up quickly.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This concern comes from animal research only, not solid human studies, so it's fairly theoretical. The cilantro you sprinkle on tacos or soup is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated extracts or essential oils are a different story. If you use those regularly, give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up so they can keep an eye on your numbers.

About Indapamide

What Is Indapamide Used For?

Brand names: Lozol, Lozide

Indapamide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), either on their own or together with other blood pressure medications. Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of related complications.

Indapamide tablets are also used to treat salt and fluid retention (edema) associated with congestive heart failure. In certain cases, indapamide may also be appropriate during pregnancy when swelling is caused by a medical condition rather than normal pregnancy changes — but routine use in otherwise healthy pregnant women is not recommended.
