Aripiprazole Lauroxil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cubebs interacts with.

Several compounds isolated from cubebs can inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) in vitro. So far, this effect has not been reported in humans. Theoretically, cubebs might increase the effects and side effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. These include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), diltiazem (Cardizem), estrogens, indinavir (Crixivan), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the gist for Aristada (aripiprazole lauroxil): your body partly relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this medication. In lab studies, certain compounds in cubebs appear to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, your aripiprazole levels could creep up a bit, which might mean more of its usual side effects, things like restlessness, drowsiness, dizziness, or movement problems.

The important part: this is only a test-tube finding, and it has not been seen in people. A pinch of cubeb as a spice is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated extracts or oils are the bigger question mark. Since Aristada is a long-acting injection you can't easily adjust, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before using cubeb supplements.
