Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Clopidogrel
Clopidogrel falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cubebs interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the wrinkle with Plavix (clopidogrel): it's a prodrug. That means it does nothing until your body activates it, and the enzymes that turn it into its active, clot-fighting form are mainly CYP2C19, with some help from CYP3A4. The interaction on file says certain compounds in cubebs can slow down CYP3A4. If that happened, it could mean a bit less of your Plavix gets switched on, which in theory could make it slightly less effective at preventing clots.
Now, the honest part: this is based only on lab (test tube) research, not real people, so it's very theoretical. A pinch of cubeb as a spice is unlikely to matter. Concentrated extracts or oils are a different story, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before using those alongside Plavix.

About Cubebs
What is Cubebs?
- Coughs and bronchitis
- Indigestion and gas
- Urinary tract complaints
- Sore throat
- Culinary spice
Cubebs are spicy, peppery berries from a vine in the pepper family that have long been used in traditional medicine for coughs, digestion, and urinary problems. Modern human studies are very limited, so its benefits are not well proven. Use it cautiously as a food spice, and talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated extracts or oils.
About Clopidogrel
What Is Clopidogrel Used For?
Brand name: Plavix
Clopidogrel is used to lower the risk of heart attack and stroke in people whose arteries are already affected by disease.
Its supported uses are acute coronary syndrome (including unstable angina, non-ST-elevation heart attack and ST-elevation heart attack), a recent heart attack, a recent stroke, and established peripheral arterial disease (narrowed arteries, usually in the legs). For acute coronary syndrome, some product labels say it should be used together with aspirin.
