Levocetirizine falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Dendrobium interacts with.

The dendrobium constituent dendrobine is reported to have convulsant effects. Theoretically, combining dendrobium with pro-convulsant drugs might increase the risk of seizure. Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.

Here's the gist with Xyzal (levocetirizine) and Dendrobium. Dendrobium contains a compound called dendrobine, which in lab reports may have a mild seizure-triggering (convulsant) effect. Antihistamines as a group can also slightly lower the threshold for seizures. So the theory is that taking the two together might add up and very slightly raise seizure risk, especially for someone already prone to seizures.

I want to be straight with you though: this is a theoretical concern based on how the chemicals behave, not real cases in people taking this combo. For most folks, levocetirizine is gentle and mainly causes drowsiness. Still, since Dendrobium safety isn't well studied, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, particularly if you have a seizure history.

Levocetirizine relieves symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial allergic rhinitis (year-round indoor allergies) — including runny nose, sneezing, and itchy, watery eyes. It also treats the skin symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives with no identified cause) in adults and children as young as 6 months of age.

The oral solution is specifically indicated for perennial allergic rhinitis in children 6 months to 2 years of age, and Xyzal oral solution shares this same use. Tablet forms cover seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria, though the exact approved age ranges vary by product — always check the labeling for the specific product you are using.
