Equol + Methyltestosterone
Methyltestosterone brand names: Metandren, Android 10, Oreton, Testred, Methitest, and others.
Equol has a moderate interaction with Methyltestosterone. Theoretically, equol might increase the levels and clinical effects of testosterone.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
TESTOSTERONE
Why this applies to Methyltestosterone
Methyltestosterone falls under TESTOSTERONE — the group Equol interacts with.
In vitro research shows that equol inhibits the binding of testosterone to serum proteins. Theoretically, equol supplementation might increase the concentration of free, bioactive testosterone, thereby increasing the risk of adverse effects from testosterone replacement therapy, including fluid retention, headache, acne, and gynecomastia.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the idea behind pairing equol with methyltestosterone. In a lab setting, equol seems to loosen testosterone's grip on the proteins that normally carry it around in your blood. When more of the hormone floats around 'free' and active, you could in theory feel a stronger testosterone effect than your dose was meant to give.
If that did happen, you might notice the usual testosterone-related issues showing up or getting worse: fluid retention or puffiness, headaches, acne breakouts, or breast tenderness and swelling (gynecomastia). That said, this is purely theoretical and based only on test-tube work, not real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding equol so they can keep an eye on you.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.

By severity: 4 major · 53 moderate · 16 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Methyltestosterone page
“Liver strain dominates this list, and it warrants real wariness before pairing supplements with methyltestosterone (Android, Testred, Methitest). This oral hormone is already hard on the liver by itself, and 38 of the 73 supplement ingredients on file carry their own liver toxicity, stacking injury on the same organ.”

Where Equol and Methyltestosterone Sit Against Everything Else
Out of every supplement and medication people look up on HelloPharmacist, here is where these two land this week — and which way each has been moving.

#2,477 of 2,830 medications looked up here in the last 7 days
Position among everything looked up on this site, not a measure of how commonly either one is used or how important it is. A supplement can climb this list because of a news story. It counts every request to the page, automated ones included, and nothing here identifies anyone.
About Equol
What is Equol?
- Menopause symptoms (hot flashes)
- Bone health support
- Skin aging
- Prostate health
- General hormone balance
Equol is a compound made in the gut when some people break down soy isoflavones, and it is also sold as a supplement. Early research links it to possible benefits for menopause symptoms and bone or skin health, but the evidence is still limited and far from proven. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
