Here's the gist with your Lotensin HCT (which combines benazepril, a blood pressure medicine, with hydrochlorothiazide, a water pill). Equol is a soy-derived phytoestrogen, and in lab dishes and animal studies it appeared to have a mild diuretic effect of its own. The thought is that stacking it on top of your hydrochlorothiazide could add to the water-losing effect.

I want to be honest that this is very theoretical and rated as minor and unlikely. We don't have human data showing it actually happens. If equol did nudge things, you might in theory notice more urination, mild dizziness, or feeling lightheaded when standing. That's worth a quick check-in with your pharmacist or doctor before adding equol, but there's no reason to panic.
