Here's the gist with Capozide (captopril plus hydrochlorothiazide) and equol. Your blood pressure pill already includes a water pill, hydrochlorothiazide, that helps your kidneys flush out extra salt and fluid. Some early lab and animal research hints that equol may have a mild water-pill effect of its own. In theory, stacking the two could nudge that effect a little stronger.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It's based only on test-tube and animal studies, the interaction is rated minor and unlikely, and we have no good human data. If it ever mattered, you might notice things like extra urination, lightheadedness, or feeling a bit dehydrated. Nothing to panic over, but do mention any new supplement to your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
