Let me start with the big picture here: European mandrake is genuinely dangerous and we strongly advise against taking it in any form. It contains tropane alkaloids (atropine-like chemicals) that poison the nervous system. That's a far bigger concern than this particular interaction.

As for the interaction itself, it's purely theoretical, based on how mandrake works rather than real-world reports. Mandrake slows down how your gut moves things along. In theory, when your stomach and intestines slow down, an oral medicine like dextromethorphan may sit there and absorb more fully, nudging its levels up a bit. With this cough medicine that could mean more dizziness, drowsiness, or feeling foggy. Please don't use mandrake, and check with your pharmacist about safer cough options.

Dextromethorphan temporarily relieves cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation, such as the kind that comes with the common cold or breathing in irritants. It also helps reduce the urge to cough so you — or your child — can get to sleep.

Some products, including CVS Long Acting Cough and Premier Value Tussin Cough oral liquids, are also indicated to help loosen phlegm (mucus) and thin bronchial secretions to help drain the airways.
