ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Sotalol Hydrochloride
Sotalol Hydrochloride falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group European Mandrake interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
First, the most important thing: European mandrake is genuinely toxic and we don't recommend taking it in any form. But here's the interaction with your sotalol. Mandrake's compounds (atropine-like chemicals) slow down how fast your gut moves. The idea is that when food and pills sit longer in your digestive tract, a bit more of a drug like sotalol could get absorbed into your body.
Sotalol isn't a prodrug, so more absorption could mean a stronger effect. That matters here because sotalol controls heart rhythm and slows the heart. Too much can cause a very slow heartbeat, dizziness, fainting, or a dangerous rhythm change. This is only a theoretical concern based on how these chemicals work, but sotalol leaves little room for error. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything with it.

European mandrake is a highly toxic plant from the nightshade family that was used in ancient and medieval times as a sedative and pain reliever.
