Evodia might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates through induction of CYP1A2.
Evodia extract and the evodia constituent rutaecarpine induce hepatic CYP1A2 enzyme activity. Evodia decreases levels of theophylline and caffeine, CYP1A2 substrates, by about 70% in animal models.

Here's the gist for Clomipramine (Anafranil). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to help break this medicine down. Evodia appears to speed that enzyme up, which means it could clear clomipramine out of your system faster than usual. Clomipramine is the active drug itself (not a prodrug), so faster clearance would mean lower blood levels and a possibly weaker effect on your OCD symptoms.

In plain terms, your medicine might not work as well, and symptoms you'd kept in check could creep back. I'll be honest though: this is based on lab and animal studies, not people, so it's more of a heads-up than a sure thing. Please don't change anything on your own. Just loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding Evodia.

Theoretically, evodia might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that evodia extract inhibits hepatic CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with Evodia and Clomipramine. Your body relies partly on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear clomipramine. In test tube studies, compounds in evodia appear to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, clomipramine could build up a bit more than usual, which might mean stronger side effects like dry mouth, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, a fast or irregular heartbeat, or feeling more sedated.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is only seen in lab research, not in people, so it's theoretical for now. Still, since clomipramine is a drug where blood levels matter, I'd run any evodia product past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

To qualify for treatment, the obsessions or compulsions must cause significant distress, take up a lot of time, or noticeably interfere with work, school, or social life.
