Methazolamide falls under Antihypertensive Drugs — the group Fenugreek interacts with.

Fenugreek may also have an additive effect on blood pressure-lowering medications. Studies on animals have shown that fenugreek seed can decrease both systolic and diastolic blood pressure by up to 22% when combined with metoprolol. Therefore, it is essential to monitor your blood pressure regularly if you are taking fenugreek and metoprolol together or any other antihypertensive drugs.

Here's the connection: methazolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used for glaucoma, but it also acts as a mild diuretic, so it can nudge your blood pressure down a little as a side effect. Fenugreek, when taken in concentrated supplement doses, may have its own gentle blood pressure-lowering effect. Put the two together and those effects could add up, possibly leaving you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, or tired, especially when you stand up quickly.

I'll be honest, this is a minor interaction backed mostly by animal studies, so it's not something to panic over. Fenugreek used as a kitchen spice is very unlikely to matter. If you take it as a daily supplement, just keep an eye on how you feel and check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Methazolamide Used For?

Brand name: Neptazane

Methazolamide tablets are used to treat eye conditions where lowering intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) is expected to help. These include chronic open-angle glaucoma and secondary glaucoma.

Methazolamide tablets are also used before surgery in acute angle-closure glaucoma, when reducing eye pressure ahead of the procedure is needed. Note that long-term use in angle-closure glaucoma is not appropriate.
