Here's the simple version: codeine is an opioid that already makes a lot of people drowsy, foggy, or slow to react. Galphimia glauca has been studied as a calming, anti-anxiety herb, and in animal and lab work it looks like it has its own mild sedative effect. So the concern here isn't about how your body breaks codeine down. It's that two calming things stacked together may add up, leaving you more sleepy, lightheaded, or less alert than you'd expect.

I'll be straight with you, this is a theoretical caution based on how each one acts, not from strong human studies pairing them. Still, with an opioid I'd play it safe. Watch for extra drowsiness or slowed breathing, avoid driving until you know how you feel, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Codeine Sulfate tablets are used to manage mild to moderate pain in adults when non-opioid pain treatments have not worked or are not tolerated. It is only appropriate when an opioid is truly needed.

Because of the serious risks of addiction, misuse, overdose, and death, codeine is reserved for patients whose pain cannot be managed adequately with other options. It is not a first-choice pain reliever.
