Cryptenamine, Methyclothiazide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Gamboge interacts with.

Overuse of gamboge might compound diuretic-induced potassium loss. There is some concern that people taking gamboge along with potassium depleting diuretics might have an increased risk for hypokalemia. Initiation of potassium supplementation or an increase in potassium supplement dose may be necessary for some patients.

Your Diutensen contains methyclothiazide, a thiazide-type water pill, and one of its known quirks is that it pushes your body to lose potassium in the urine. Gamboge brings its own problem here: it's a harsh laxative that irritates the gut, and heavy or repeated use can flush out fluids and minerals, including potassium. Put the two together and you could end up with low potassium (hypokalemia), which can show up as muscle weakness or cramps, fatigue, or an irregular heartbeat.

I'll be honest, this concern is based on how these two work in theory rather than strong study data. The bigger issue is that gamboge is genuinely toxic by mouth and I'd steer you away from it entirely. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything new with Diutensen.

What is Gamboge?

Gamboge is a bright yellow tree resin used historically as a strong laxative and as an artists' pigment, but it is toxic in even modest amounts and is not a safe dietary supplement. Modern interest centers on its compound gambogic acid in laboratory cancer research, which does not make the raw resin safe to take. We recommend avoiding oral use of gamboge.
