Here's the thing to keep in mind with this pairing. Gamboge is a harsh laxative resin, and like other strong laxatives, heavy or prolonged use can flush potassium out of your body. The concern on file is that it might add to the potassium-lowering effect of corticosteroids. Clobetasol (Temovate, Clobex), however, is a topical steroid you put on your skin or scalp. Very little gets absorbed into your bloodstream with normal use, so this potassium overlap is mostly theoretical and unlikely to matter for the average person.

That said, if you're slathering it over large areas for a long time, or already prone to low potassium, the math changes a bit. Honestly though, gamboge isn't safe to take by mouth at all, so please don't use it. Chat with your pharmacist if you have questions.

What is Gamboge?

Gamboge is a bright yellow tree resin used historically as a strong laxative and as an artists' pigment, but it is toxic in even modest amounts and is not a safe dietary supplement. Modern interest centers on its compound gambogic acid in laboratory cancer research, which does not make the raw resin safe to take. We recommend avoiding oral use of gamboge.

Clobetasol topical is used to treat moderate to severe scalp psoriasis and plaque psoriasis. It reduces the redness, scaling, and itching associated with these skin conditions.

Treatment is intended for short-term use only and should be limited to the minimum time needed to bring the condition under control. It should not be used on the face, groin, or underarm areas.
