Here's the worry with this pairing. Fludrocortisone is a mineralocorticoid steroid, and one of its main jobs is to make your kidneys hold onto sodium while pushing potassium out. That means it already tends to lower your potassium on its own. Gamboge is a harsh laxative, and laxatives that cause lots of watery stool can drain potassium too. Stack the two together over time and your potassium could drop further than expected, which can leave you feeling weak, crampy, or give you an irregular heartbeat.

To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how each one works, not on solid studies. The bigger point is that gamboge is genuinely toxic and we don't recommend taking it at all. Please run any plans past your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Gamboge

What is Gamboge?

Gamboge is a bright yellow tree resin used historically as a strong laxative and as an artists' pigment, but it is toxic in even modest amounts and is not a safe dietary supplement. Modern interest centers on its compound gambogic acid in laboratory cancer research, which does not make the raw resin safe to take. We recommend avoiding oral use of gamboge.
